The harvest season for beans is well underway in the Rotanda irrigation scheme in Sussundenga district. We caught up with the farmers at the Nharai Muone association who have been producing beans for many years. Recently they have been introduced to new varieties as well as the introduction of quality inputs. They are impressed by the yields they are now getting and want to continue producing given they have good local markets for beans.
At the moment the farmers association has to travel to Chimoio to buy inputs. However under the Inputs Partnership BAGC is coordinating efforts with its commercial partners to train and stock more local agrodealerships. Giving farmers better more convenient access to quality inputs linked to training and finance will help to improve yields further. These are all areas that the Inputs Partnership is focusing on in the coming years across clusters within Manica and Sofala provinces.
